Summer ProgramsTribute to Jonas Rosenthal

Jonas Rosenthal was a friend, colleague, town manager, recreation director, event planner, hockey fanatic, jokester but mostly a man who worked hard for what he believed in. Jonas continued to support and stay involved in the town that meant so much to him even after retiring. He was an integral part of the Poultney Recreation Commission for the past 35 years. He was an organizer, leader, king of paperwork but mostly a man who loved Poultney and wanted to make sure every kid had the opportunity to be involved in recreation programs. It was his drive and dedication that built such a wonderful and successful program in Poultney.

Jonas was admired for his leadership, his commitment to get things done, his work ethics and especially his love for Poultney. He will be greatly missed but his love for Poultney and recreation will live on in all the programs he loved and supported. He was truly a wonderful person that made a difference in the lives he touched.

Poultney Recreation is proud to dedicate a custom bench designed and built by Zac Crawford and installed on the Town Green in loving memory of Jonas.

Owen Zachery Crawford creates monumental stainless steel sculptures, architectural installations, and furniture that defy convention.  His work is distinguished by innovation with metalwork and mixed mediums, a fluidity of form, and a talent and affinity toward technical detail.

Born in Granville, NY and raised on the shores of Lake St. Catherine by an artist and antique dealer, Zac attended Westfield State College where he studied ceramics and art history. From there, a move to Kentucky, and experience at a steel fabrication shop led him to his now-signature medium, stainless steel. Zac’s art is influenced by a natural talent for high precision welding, and his experiences traveling throughout the US as a member of the Local 522 Pipefitters Union where he fabricated high pressure vessels and worked in chemical plants, power plants, and copper mines.

In 1999, Zac’s sculpture was exhibited for the first time at the St. James Court Art Show. Subsequent large scale, site-specific installations have been created for The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, Humana’s Corporate Tower, and a multitude of commercial businesses.

Along with his wife Neisja, Zac owned and operated a studio and gallery in Louisville, Kentucky where their steel sculpture garden composed of architectural elements, whimsical gates, staircases, and contemporary fencing earned praise from the Louisville Magazine. The installation was described as a “streetside sanctuary” and became a destination within the city.

After the birth of their daughter in 2009, Zac and Neisja returned to Granville, NY. Zac is also a local builder specializing in custom docks, decks, renovations, and new construction. He specializes in custom construction projects that require innovative building solutions.
